I’d argue that’s not fun or engaging for a significant number of people myself included. Trying things yourself in D2 tends to make characters that only work temporarily and then suddenly get bodied. Just like D3 was a complete disaster on launch but sold a world record number of copies because of the IP alone.
It was made because a lot of people have fond memories of it and those people have a lot of marketing power. This remake wasn’t made because D2 has stellar, engaging mechanics. Which, if something is popular it’s probably not boring if not meta. It usually just means meta, or sometimes just the most popular. There are tons of games with “cookie cutter builds” and they’re still entertaining. It’s appeal is nostalgia.Ĭookie cutter builds aren’t the problem.
D2 is boring compared to other games of the same genre. You’ve never played a game, and instead of exploring it and trying things by yourself, you went online and used a cookie-cutter build and now, mysteriously, you’re “bored”?
